Products & Care

Pads, tampons, cups, discs, period underwear, everything you need to know and where to get it.

There are more options for managing your period than ever before. Here is a breakdown of the most common products, including how to use them and where to buy them.

Pads

Sanitary pads are the most common option for menstrual products. They work by attaching to underwear and absorbing period blood through layers of absorbent material. There are many different sizes of pads, from large overnight pads to small daily liners.

Tampons

Tampons are also a very common option and work similarly to pads. However, tampons are inserted into the vagina and absorb the blood internally. Many people prefer a tampon when participating in physical activity or when the bulkiness of a pad is unwanted.

Heads up: Beware of the risk for Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). Only keep tampons in for the recommended length of time the brand gives.

Menstrual Cups

Menstrual cups are products inserted into the vagina that can stay in the vaginal canal, collecting blood for over 12 hours. After around 8-12 hours, the cup may be removed, drained, rinsed, and reused. At the end of each period, the cup should be sterilized in hot water. This option is very eco-friendly as 1 cup can be used for up to 10 years.

Menstrual Discs

These work very similarly to menstrual cups; however, most are not reusable and not as eco-friendly as the menstrual cups. These discs rest up against the cervix rather than just against the wall of the vaginal canal.

Period Underwear

These undergarments look like regular underwear but have a layer of absorbent material that prevents blood from leaking through. Period underwear is washable and a very good, long-lasting, and sustainable option for menstrual products.
